Install playstore version, rename obb (add x) uninstall the original apk and then install this mod apk, and then rename the obb (remove x)

I used the mirror link, the one titled "UPDATE", but when I try to install that one, I don't even get an "unknown app" warning. It just won't install. I'm running android 16. I have all my security settings for apps disabled. I'm confused how others did this.
